Touristically, Casentino has for centuries been a good retreat for important families in Florentine society. This is where vacationing was invented. In the plain of Campaldino the disfida between Guelphs and Ghibellines was played out, a dreamlike place, distant in time and yet relevant to our modern history.
The Sanctuary of La Verna stands out in the pre-alpine heights of Tuscany. It is beautiful and a visit is absolutely recommended. It originated as a pilgrim retreat of St. Francis of Assisi and is now a popular destination for silent and profound tourism. Casentino is a place of the soul, where you can rediscover slowness, fantastic mountain itineraries and a life of absolute relaxation. The religious spirit hovers everywhere and is a peculiarity that charmingly characterizes every enchanted corner of this landscape of verdant forests. Mountain passes lead to beautiful roads that change in orography at a moment's notice. 100% convenience for those seeking the good old-fashioned cuisine of roasts and homemade pasta. Tourist facilities are of an excellent standard and courtesy is a strong point.
